Fimbulwinter gathers. The sun thins. Along the fjords, warbands are raised not for glory but for provision. These are their stories — from the first keel-bond to the fires that will call the Valkyries.
“The sun grows thin. Ravens return to Odin with word that three winters without a summer are already gathering beyond the maps.”
Along the fjord-coasts of Nordvegr, kingdoms crumble into silver and rumor. What remains is the sea, the ships, and the men bold enough to sail both — not for glory, but for provision. Winter is coming, and winter does not negotiate.
“A Viking cannot raid forever. So the old crews bound their spirits to the keel. When you, the holder, rest — the ship sails itself. Ghost-oars pull through sea-fog, harrying coasts while you sleep.”
In harbor it trades, slow and safe. At sea under black sail it runs far waters, twice the plunder. One tap — harbor or raiding — and the silver follows, second by second, even while you are offline.
Sell your Viking and the ship does not stay. Keel-bonds are older than any oath. It follows its warrior, accrued silver and all.
Canon · Ships are alive, loyal to the warrior — never the wallet. $LOOT is always silver.
“Warriors — free men who chose sea over soil. The backbone. Their ships are swift, their plunder steady.”
Berserkers — wolf-sworn, fighting in a blind red mist. Their ships run darker waters and come back heavier.
Jarls — sea-kings with oath-bound crews. Whole coasts pay them to leave.
Nine remain unnamed. One eye glints wrong. God-Touched.
“High in the mountains sits a forge built by Brokkr’s exiles — dwarves who fled the courts of the gods and now work for silver alone.”
Lead-sealed crates wait on iron shelves: Iron, Silver, Gold. What’s inside is decided only when the seal breaks — a rune-stone, a ring-haul, a blade that remembers its last owner.
Silver burned here is gone forever. Not locked. Reforged. And the mountain remembers every flame.
“Silver has one more use the skalds whisper about: feeding the beacon fires on the headlands.”
Burn enough — not one man’s fortune, but many men’s, piled together — and light will answer from above.
What answers are the Valkyries, choosers of the slain. They do not come for corpses. They come for the worthy. Some darker fires, the old stories say, draw the Draugr instead — dead raiders who remember nothing except wanting more.
